How did you get straight hair to start off with? Mine is curly (Not too curly like an African though)

@09feb1992 I'm not sure what you mean? My hair is naturally curly, also African-like(coz I am South African, btw.lol) but it's also thin and soft naturally as well, so I can comb it straight and run the hair dryer through it and it will lie in a fairly straight pattern, and then I just run my ghd® through it. The reason why it stays fairly straight is because I never give it a chance to curl, almost like training it to stay the way I want it to be... Does this help? Email me.

( Continued ) Black women don't seem to want to accept this, Black women seem hella pissed off when someone notices the difference between the Average African hair types and the common Black/white hair types, there are exceptions to the rule of course but on average there's usually a different hair type that comes from being a mixture of White/Black .

@BiracialGirl1977 Exactly! Sometimes, those exceptions, just got more of the "african hair genes" from the one parent, probably because it was more dominant or something... Even within my own family, in my house, we all have different hair types.. some are more blessed(having got more "white genes") than others.

I have very short mix race hair about 2 -2.5 cm long and I would like to know which flat iron to buy especially for a guy?

@agent2ooo I recommend the ghd® mini styler ABOVE ALL other brands especially with our hair type. It creates the perfect straight with movement. Otherwise, any other tourmaline-ceramic mini straightener will do, from the Tony & Guy range perhaps. The ghd® is a bit pricey, but the result speaks for itself everytime and cannot be achieved by any other flat iron.

your hair is what i would consider straight even when u get outa the shower.. id love to have ur hair! lol mine is horrible after i get outa the shower its like a giant curly afro... really hard to straighten and after i do get it straight its all poofy...

But what if i do not want to straighten my hair? Reading some of the comments it looks like a lot of mixed race/black people want to straighten their hair. How about a tutorial for mixed race people who want to keep their hair natural i.e. not straighten but still have some sort of style to it. That would be great! :)

@TheDarkmagic94 Holy moly of the polony! I'm South African too! Born in sunny Durbz and I'm mixed or coloured as we say it (White father and black mother). But when I have long hair it's curly and it won't stay straight, even after combing/brushing it. Atm my hair is short. And I mean it's not as curly like black African men's hair. I was just thinking of ways to change my hair style, but once it's straight, what can I do with it? The Spanish look? like Enrique Iglesias. (Similar skin tone)

( Continued ) I come here and there is no arguing back and forth LOL . Black guys can usually accept the fact that mixed race Black/white combo people usually come out with a different hair type then the average full black person or full white person.

It's funny, you know what I've noticed ? When mixed race girls make videos talking about mixed race hair there is always a freaking catty ass argument between the mixed race girls and Black girls, with the Black girls saying " Um, there's no such thing as mixed race hair " and then commenting that someone in their family has the same kind of hair and their fully Black blah blah blah it's ridiculous .
