Learn Cantonese Lesson 5 takes us back to a bygone era where the rich were served by the poor. This dialogue is between the lady of the house and the servant who discuss the former's plans for having tea with her friend and what time she will be having dinner.

Mrs. Wong: 我同黃生三點半要飲茶。
Servant : 食唔食餅呀?
Mrs. Wong: 些少啦。
Servant : 咁, 幾點鐘食飯呀?
Mrs. Wong: 八點啦。
Servant: 好呃。

Mrs. Wong: Ngóh tùhng Wòhng Sàang sàam dím yiu yám chàh.
Servant: Sihk ̀mh sihk béng a?
Mrs. Wong: Sihk sèsíu lā.
Servant: Gám, géi dím jūng sihk faahn a?
Mrs. Wong: Baat dím lā.
Servant: Hóu aak.

Mrs. Wong: I'm having tea with Mrs. Wong at 3:30.
Servant: Are you having pastries?
Mrs. Wong: A few.
Servant: What time will you be having dinner, then?
Mrs. Wong: At 8.
Servant: Fine.
