The melting pot that is No Crows borrows from the cosmopolitanism of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra and Loykos innovations (with just a tincture of the freewheeling of Django Reinhardt) for their debut. Swing rarely felt this good . Siobhan Long, Irish Times
No Crows is a quartet of fine musicians based in Sligo, Ireland. Felip Carbonell (an exceptional Mallorcan guitarist Irish Times) is joined by Steve Wickham of The Waterboys energetic fiddle style, Swiss musician Anna Houstons soulful cello and mandolin playing and Sligoman Eddie Lee on double bass. Their repertoire is truly global as their music ranges from Irish traditional to classical and gypsy swing as well as folk tunes from China, Finland, Moldova, Russia, Venezuela, Greece and beyond. Their second CD Magpie was released in early 2008 to critical and public acclaim. 2008 has been a busy year for NoCrows as they have toured Ireland, Mallorca, Switzerland and Belgium and were recorded in-concert by RTE Radio 1 which was broadcast in September08. 2009 promises to be a busy year for NoCrows, having already confirmed appearances at major European festivals including Glastonbury (UK) (26 June) and Dranouter (Belgium) (7 Aug).
a beautifully wrought selection of instrumental music. You can sense the pleasure they find in each others playing. Joe Breen, Irish Times.
