  • @APS221 The flag was raised again in 1865. Sorry that I said you didn't do your research, but I still don't think he was refering to the Star Spangled Banner. We both think differently and are entitled to our own opinions. Now let's just relax and watch The Big Bang Theory! :)

  • @thecursedpharaoh Does he? It seems pretty clear that his comment/joke is an allusion to the lyrics of the Star Spangled Banner. We both know the lyrics refer to the flag over Fort McHenry. If you want to believe that Sheldon (and the show's writers) didn't make a mistake and deliberately referred to the flag over Fort Sumter, that's fine. But don't try to accuse me of not doing my research. Now you're the one who is trying to guess what he meant if the dialogue wasn't a actually a mistake.

  • @APS221 He could also have meant that it survived.

  • @APS221 I think he just means during the battle.

  • @thecursedpharaoh I just don't think you can claim the flag was "still there" and the comment in the video wasn't a mistake.

  • @thecursedpharaoh I don't think you can say the flag was "still there" when the flag wasn't flown over Fort Sumter for the duration of the Civil War. I suppose when you consider the flag "still there," you mean the flag wasn't destroyed, was flown once after the war ended, and is now in the Fort Sumter museum along with the Palmetto Guard flag that replaced it during the Civil War. I, of course, would disagree with that view.

  • @thecursedpharaoh I did. As I mentioned, the "flag was still there" comment is a direct allusion to the lyrics of the Star Spangle Banner (and the Francis Scott Key poem the lyrics are based on). As you know, Key's original poem was about the flag above Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. The flag above Fort Sumter was lowered on April 14, 1861 when Major Robert Anderson surrendered, and it was replaced with a South Carolina Palmetto Guard flag.

  • @APS221 Do a little research on Fort Sumter.... The flag was shot up and all, but they put it back up. :)

  • Why the laugh track? Why the show cut of the scene? How about a cut of this scene like it's going to be on YouTube?
