Jesse Evans: Proudly presenting the 15 islands in the Cook Islands...( April 2009 Video )

Mangaia: The second largest island in the Cook Islands, which is now estimated by scientists to be at least 22 million years old, which makes it the oldest island in the Pacific.

Magical Mangaia not only displays it's incredible beauty so serene, it is also an island very peaceful beyond anyones imagination, a must see to believe and experience.

Mangaia's traditional name Au'au or Au'au Enua actually means steps or terraced and refers to the terraces created by the makatea, or razor sharp fossilized coral.

Mangaia is about 176km south east of Rarotonga and has a land area of 52 square kilometers, and it sits 60 metres above sea level.

  • Hi there

fantastic video footage of Mangaia, it just brings to tears when I saw this video.

I am Mangaian born, left the island in 1980 since then I have not returned. Even thou I sincerely miss Mangaia. May be one day it would be nice to go back home. I do recognise the harbour in Oneroa and the old lady sitting on the chair wearing the blue dress in Ivirua.

thank you for viewing this video on UTube, awesome work. Ani Vaipo from Ivirua.
