  • Hi Patrick, sorry for not replying sooner. The extension cable that gave the best results was in fact a no name non-branded cable. The one that I had problems with was a Belkin. However, I suspect that I just had a faulty cable and that other Belkin cables would probably be okay.

  • Hi, both the 'faulty' and the working cables were about 3 m in length, so length wasn't the issue in this case. I'm not entirely sure why some microphones need a battery. It could be to do with the type of microphone and whether it can draw enough power from the cable to work. No idea really.

  • Hi Patrick, glad they've been of use! Only posted them to YouTube to test out sharing in Adobe Premiere Elements. Wasn't really expecting anyone to watch them :-) The extension cable that gave the best results was an unbranded 3.5 mm male stereo jack to 3.5 mm male stereo jack like this - but not necessarily this brand or from this source: bit DOT ly SLASH fNq4Tt

with one of these bit DOT ly SLASH eR5F2y I think I was just unlucky with that Belkin cable. Youtube a pain, no links allowed.

    Kris.

  • Thank you, How long was your extension cable? Why do other wired lapel mics need a button cell battery (Audio Technica and Radio Shack)..possibly to enhance sound volume or quality?

  • Hi there, I'm not sure what your reasoning for making these tests was, but they have been very useful for me, so thank you. I am hoping to use the same Sony mic for an interview, and now thank's to you I know I'll need an extension cable. Can I ask what model extension cable you used in this video?

    Thank you,

    Patrick
