I drove with Skoda Octavia 230 km/h in Poland. My father had to pay 500 PLN.

Many german cars are using devices to limit the top speed. Even if the cas has better engine and would be able to drive 280km/h the manufacurer does not want to make negative reputation by drivers killed in high velocity.
Skoda to my knowledge does not have this limitation but its engine does not make much more than 230-250. The speed 250 is to be made only under very good whether conditions backwind, good road and down the hill ;o)

He should have been filming the GPS speed instead. I've tested it once and drove 230 km/h in a Skoda Superb 1.8T .. GPS "only" had me at 205 km/h :)

You are right. I checked again the actual video (much better quality) and saw that when the speedo was reading 240 km/h, the GPS said 226 km/h so the actual max speed was about 230 km/h. No bad for a 2 ton car (3 passengers + luggage) with a 1.8 engine
