you can you use diesel engine oil it'll work on older engines for a temporary solution. Diesel oil uses around the same viscosity (around usually 10w40 to 15w50)

This may be a tad off topic but since the oils were reformulated with less zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate than should be in a flat tappet engine what do you use to avoid premature cam wear?
