The North is facing U.N. sanctions for last month's nuclear test, and got one step closer by jailing two U.S.-based journalists.
South Koreans are speaking their mind on the situation.
[Kim Kwang-tae, South Korean Citizen]
"Under the circumstances that North Korea is isolated, it would not be easy for them to put this 12 years sentence on two journalists into practice."
Others criticize the North's action as unjust.
[Seo Seong-ran, South Korean Citizen]:
"I think it's unjust and doesn't make sense that North Korea sentenced the two American journalists to detention in a labor prison for 12 years."
The sentence follows U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's warning on Sunday that the United States is considering putting the North back on its list of states that sponsor terrorism.
The journalists, Euna Lee and Laura Ling, of U.S. media outlet CurrentTV, were arrested in March while working on a story near the border between North Korea and China.
The harsh sentence is certain to deepen the chill in relations with the United States, which has been trying for years to convince North Korea to give up its dreams of becoming a nuclear weapons power.
I recently visited South Korea. Most people could not understand why these two entered North Korea knowing the risk they were taking

if you put sanctions on North Korea, aren't you essentially putting sanctions on the two journalists too? how do you think they'll treat them if there is nothing to eat?
