I thought 'Secret Army' was one of the very best WWII dramas ever made and the character that really glowed in brilliance was Sturmbannfuhrer (later Standartenfuhrer) Ludwig Kessler - Clifford Rose is a fantastic actor and the only person who brought this part to life. All of the other actors were cast well and the direction/production was top quality. It is a shame they don't make them like this anymore.

Kessler is a fascinating character, a True Believer without doubt but occasionally shows flashes of normal human feeling. It is easy to imagine him as a devout Inquisitor waging war against Satan at any cost - or authorizing Guantanomo waging war against 'Terror'.

Nice to hear from another fan. Secret army is a wellproduced serie. But I mostly remember Kessler after 30 years.
Mr Rose is giving us evil Nazi, but in a human shape. Not the stereotypic "Indiana Jones - nazis"

What makes this series brilliant is it shows a very human side of the SS
caracters (Kessler is just SUBLIME) Portraying these people not "black & white" but quite human makes the series a little less "predictable"& more interesting to watch
(I HATE the films where the Germans are portrayed as "stupid" thats the easy way out & I rhink its "cheap")
I know there was a follow -up series about Kessler Could you PLEASE find that somewhere ??????? All my thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
