  • Very interesting, thanks for sharing! I've used a 90 for most of my diving and become pretty accurate with it, but for the last 6mths or so I've been using my RA 120 Tuna, and I've missed some sitters!! I think it's the extra weight (wrist is too weak), and also the harder tracking with the weight and the double rubbers. Keen to do some pool target practice too. How far was the target from your spear tip? You said it was useful - have you noticed the difference since when spearing? Cheers mate

  • @AussiePlatta G'day Aus! Thanks for the interest. That was a 1m RA Sparid and the target was at maximum range (flapper went through it by about 10cm before stopping). So from my wrist, about 5m. I miss sitters too... I completely missed a nice dusky flattie the other day and it was almost point blank shooting! I feel another cause of inaccuracy could be in how light refracts from water to glass to air in the mask. The only way to avoid this error is to keep the mask glass perpendicular to

  • @AussiePlatta the spear shaft. I used to hunt whiting a lot and would miss constantly. I straightened up the mask a bit more and I've had a streak of 9 hits, zero misses. It's sometimes difficult to straighten your head enough in shallow water, but I felt it's made a difference. That said, sometimes the instinct shots where you don't aim at all are more accurate than ever! I nailed a whiting off instinct a second after it disappeared from view in the murky water. Probably luck though! Enjoy

  • when you aim, do you aim under, above or right at the target?

  • @peteiverson Hey mate. In all shots I'm aiming right at the target. My shots tended to be low and left. The main thing the footage allowed me to see (especially in the 'from above' angle) was that my wrist twists when shooting. I believe this initiates a rolling motion in the spear as it leaves the gun. I also believe the flapper helps to SLIGHTLY lift the front of the spear and a roll in the spear will let the flapper drive it in the new direction.

  • @peteiverson After seeing my wrist twist, I stiffened my wrist in the shot more. Made a big improvement to my accuracy. My shots were right on target, but usually slightly low. The other thing to note in the video is that we're in the deep end of the pool with the target in the shallow. The shots are actually shooting 'uphill'. I redid my practice later with a float and marker suspended at the same height as the target. Helped with vertical accuracy also. Overall it was a useful exercise!

  • @kitehobbsy haha, excellent, thanks mate! Weather is shite at the moment, so a good time to get in the pool and practice! Thanks mate, and if you're ever in Brazil let me know!

    Cheers
