Thank you so much, Barefoot Diva, for your music, soul and passion !
Tribute video. Cesária Évora (1941 - 2011).

Perfect song to show the main faces of Cape Verdean and Cesaria's music: both melancholic and joyful, both beautiful -- NOTE the complete change of rhythm halfway the song at 2'06'' !!

With the collaboration of accordionist Régis Gizavo, from Madagascar.

  • Didn't know she died this year. One hug dear friend (Wim).

Ps, The Creole that most resembles Portuguese, with high chances of being inaccurate or simply wrong: São Tomé ... Bô (maybe a place) is part of our history, our pain.

Bô was a place of suffering (...) my biggest treasure is value and love, (something) far but closer (...) closer to our future, the Past only weighs (...) reality is forgiveness, and forgiveness can bond us.

These words are very similar to Portuguese, at least.

  • @MHumberto : she passed away saturday 17 December 2011. Thank you !

I have seen her live, and am happy to have been there. This grand Lady was respected by the great musicians, and by a large public. One of the greats definitely!

  • Thank you for this wonderful tribute, Wim. It's HER sound! I also loved this incredible woman. I am so glad that I have a lot of her music to remember her by. Best wishes to you!! Eileen

  • @wimpers Yes, read 10 minutes ago.

Im sorry for that, considering you loved and followed her.

  • Wim I love(d) Cesária's partnership with Bregovic, even though singing in Creole made it very difficult to understand 80% of what the songs were / are saying. Magical song(s) nevertheless, the melodies and her singing. Very much unfamiliar with her discography in Portuguese. Still, can always remember her appearances in some TV shows and such, in Portugal.

Always had the impression that she had more fans outside of Portugal, Wim. One of the greats, without doubt.

  • Cesária, we love you ...
