Sonny Rollins - The Bridge

finally i met sonny rollins after 16 yrs from first hearing him, i heard him in london for 2hrs, got to speak to him, he signed my ticket stub we chatted briefly, i touched the giant, i saw the master up close and i stood side by side for a photo.
thankyou sonny rollins, thou art great, thou art presenteth them all. i often believe that charlie parker sent him as someone to carry on the flame. my picture with rollins eerily shows a beam of light cross both me and rollins.

sonny rollins is one of my greatest influences in music! i love his music and sound!

He lost me after about "66, but in those previous years he pretty much smoked everyone. NO ONE sat in with Sonny Rollins.

You can hear the humor, intensity, virtuosity, and boldness coming out of his horn all at once.

Well I have played sax all my life and I just don't get it, don't get me wrong... love jazz, love many artists, but when it comes to Sonny Rollins I must admit I feel like the little boy who cried out that the emperor has no clothes.. he leaves me stone cold. Kind of waiting for him to start playing... to me he seems to be in a perpetual warm-up mode and never really gets going. I guess it takes all types... still.... whatever turns you on...

That's OK. The Universe thrives on diversity. That's why we have more than 1 saxophone player in the world. You go out and create your thing!
