At age 21, Meena Kumari played a tender-hearted mother in this movie flawlessly. She sought a role and it was created for her. Nirupa Roy, the poor woman outside the home in the scene, was made to wear borrowed clothes from street people to lend authenticity to her role. The producer-director, the music director, the lyricist, the actors, the singers-- all acquitted themselves with perfection in this classic tale of social realism.Sadly, all are gone from this world except Lataji.
