  • @bananaseepeep Hey man, did you have any chatter when revving? Or was it just the rattle at idle? I have a chatter I'm trying to diagnose on my 1.8t and i have determined it could be the tensioner.. But it doesn't rattle that much at idle, just a bad chatter around 1.8k rpm to 2k and around 2.8k

    Thanks,

    P

  • @Pip2andahalf What I heard was mostly at idle. I don't believe I had anyone rev the motor in neutral while standing near the car. However, the first time I noticed the noise was while accelerating away from a toll booth in jersey, so it must have been making noise there too. My audi had some really noisy exhaust, so we couldn't really hear the valve train while cruising down the road.

  • hey, how much did the total CCT job cost?

    how many hours of labor?

    thank you

  • @Pmanpop CCT part is expensive for AMB motor code, maybe 300 bucks. I did the work myself in approx 2 hours.

  • when you put yours on did it leak oil afterwards? mine is and i dont know why.

  • @AndrewDavidPlush Did you replace all three gasket/seals?

    1) Valve cover gasket

    2) Cam chain tensioner gasket (metal gasket)

    3) Half moon seal

  • I have similar problem... check out my video

  • @motobox1232 Perhaps .0001 clearances don't allow thick additives. Anyway, Lucas works well in older engines with pushrods. It keeps the oil in the lifters from foaming. Lucas stabilizer should be added when the engine oil is hot, for best initial distribution. Really, when I check the dipstick on my buggy, the oil isn't really that thick. Maybe the Acura engine isn't that durable? I'm not entirely certain Lucas would do this damage. But I'll take you word for it.

  • @seapeddler we blew 3 engines with Lucas, pretty awesome stuff... something about it doesn't agree with turbo acura 1.8's would drive it for like 3 months perfectly fine then toss in half a bottle of lucas at oil change and within a week poof, smoked like a bitch. 3 times in a row.. last engine didn't get lucas'd and lasted till the car was sold

  • I had the same issue and i changed the oil pump and know it's ok!Just take a look at your pump also cause it's maybe a little bit blocked due to sludge! So if the pump has a problem you are going to have the same sound again! :)

  • its a gas diesel engine .....lol

  • @bananaseepeep Thanks for the reply.

Funny you should mention exhaust, because it turns out I had a weld go bad on my muffler hanger, and it's just creaking until it breaks. Phew, no timing issues. :) Again, thanks for getting back to me.

  • Good god look how tightly that engine is packed in there. People, have the common sense not to buy these kind of cars. Not just this model, but ALL models where the engine is packed in there like a bunch of sardines in a can. Its impossible to work on some kind of engine like this - you have to take a million things off to change the actual broken parts.
