Time evolution of the "light Sgr" satellite impact, from 2.65 billion years ago to the present-day. In this visualization, brightness represents surface density, and the orbital plane of the satellite is aligned with the vertical axis. Here, the triggering and amplification of spiral arms are much more apparent, immediately following the first disk impact. (visualization credit: Chris Purcell)
