FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Warren Civic Theater is breaking out the chains and scaring up all the ghosts in the surrounding neighborhoods as they present their family friendly version of the perennial Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, December 18 through 20 at the Warren Community Center, 5460 Arden in Warren.

Celebrate the holidays and recapture the spirit of an old-fashioned Christmas with an imaginative staging of this timeless tale. Join Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit and, of course, Ebenezer Scrooge as they bring this classic story to life. Adapted by Greg Trzaskoma, Warren Civics Artistic Director, the story tells of an old miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, and how in just one night, he has seen his past, his present, and his future... and they've all come back to haunt him. Trzaskoma, who founded Warren Civic Theatre in 1990, says I found it very challenging, while adapting the script, to figure out what to omit and how to make it fresh. It's such a great and well-known story. I was struck by its being a ghost story and wanted to emphasize that aspect of the text. He added, Some say our theater is haunted by the ghost of Richard M. Wirth, the former Warren High School Drama director from the early '50's to the late '80's and I thought it might be exciting to get him involved in the holiday spirit.

The cast, which includes Aaron Kurilik of Clawson, as Scrooge, John Rusanchin of Warren as Bob Cratchit, Melanie Whalen of Clinton Township as Mrs. Cratchit, Steven R. Elmore of Clinton Township, as Jacob Marley, Lorrie Garrison of Rochester Hills, as the Poultress, Donna Osterhout LaBrecque of Roseville as a caroler and narrator, Julia Lasak as the "Intelligent Child" and Anne Hernandez of Troy as the Charwoman, are joined onstage by over 60 additional cast members. I hope I can bring warmth and cheer to the gray-haired old grump, says Kurilik of his character, while trying to give life to the classic misanthrope so that his rebirth is ours too. The play is a wonderful story about redemption and hope, says Elmore of Clinton Township, If Scrooge can change, anyone can! Elmore, who starred as Fagan in Warren Civic Theatres summer musical Oliver! is appearing onstage with his two children, Ryan (age twelve), and Jensyn (age four). Tiny Tim, Will Prouxl, a seven-year-old, who attends second grade at Wilde Elementary School in Warren says, Its exciting fun for everyone.

The performances are in the auditorium at the Warren Community Center. Doors open for the Friday and Saturday shows, December 18 and 19 at 7:00 pm, with the performance at 7:30 pm. Sunday, December 20 doors at 1:30 pm with the performance at 2:00 pm.

Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under. Call 586-268-8400 for ticket reservations. Call 248-390-5443 to inquire about group discounts.
