  • Building new density doesn't always create traffic to an area. Building an area where one can choose to live, work and play gives options on how they move about the city. This is an interesting plan; probably could put about 15000 on the site and further strengthen the bus stop at the location.

  • @halifaxboyns This is exactly what Transit Oriented Development is about. If People that live in this higher density area can get to work with public transit, there would be much less traffic and public transportation would be much more affordable. Not to mention the cost savings of using less gas and paying for parking.

  • @gravijiga Dartmouth Crossing is just a badly planned development. The so called 'main' street has 2 main issues.

    1) It's single use. The uppper retail levels and surrounding area should be utilized more for office or residential use, perhaps varies in building height.

    2) It's not connected. Most people still need to drive there.

There are other issues too long to type in this box ...

  • I like the cobble stone street design of Dartmouth Crossing but would have preferred a large super mall with big glass pane roofing, cafés fountains, exotic trees and sculptures from local artisans. It could have been summer all year round inside. A gathering place for the community with entertainment, festivals and an outdoor style food market. But no, its just a big parking lot with a bunch of boxes sitting in the middle of it.

  • I agree about the whole Big Box outdoor shopping districts. There is a demand for those types of stores but during the cold winter months going out to them can be very uncomfortable. Plus parking takes up a lot of space. It should have all been indoors. Parking could be in large towers or underground to save on space.

  • increasing density has no effect on congestion. increasing density at the site could increase traffic to and from the area.

  • A college or school would be great there
