Lucie Frohlichova, graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison won the seventh annual Wayne Grace Memorial Student Design Competition for her work with the SOHI Design committee.

Vienna VA - The Landscape Architectural Registration Boards Foundation proudly announces the winner
of the seventh annual Wayne Grace Memorial Student Design Competition as Lucie Frohlichova from the
University of Wisconsin, Madison.

The purpose of this annual design competition is to gather outstanding examples of landscape
architectural work which clearly demonstrate how the practice of landscape architecture and licensing
affects the quality of life. Ms. Frohlichova will receive a cash award of $1,000.00 from the Foundation.

The judges agreed that the winning entry covered a wide range of issues impacting public health, safety
and welfare, many of which are not clearly seen or easily understood by the public and legislators.

"Modifying the Character of Milwaukees Sohi Main Street District: Reinvigoration through Incorporation,"
by Lucie Frohlichova, University of Wisconsin, Madison, demonstrates how landscape architects can
coordinate the diverse elements of engineering and architecture to mitigate pedestrian-vehicular conflict
and integrate environmental solutions.

This winning project depicts how landscape architects apply specialized knowledge and skill to create
design solutions that address important social problems and protect the natural environment. The projects
also show why 49 U.S. States and Territories and two Canadian Provinces have laws requiring licensure
for landscape architects.

The judges for the seventh annual Wayne Grace Memorial Student Design Competition were: Kenneth J.
Backman, FASLA, Principal of the Omaha, Nebraska firm Kenneth J. Backman, Landscape Architect and
Past President of the Foundation and CLARB; and Robert H. Mortensen, FASLA, Principal of the Virginia
firm Mortensen Associates and Past President of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

The honoree of the competition, Wayne Grace, dedicated his life to improving the quality of life in his
hometown of Macon, Georgia through the conscientious practice of landscape architecture, and he
worked tirelessly to advance the cause of licensure in his state and across the U.S. and Canada. His
efforts not only improved the protection of the environment and the public, but they also greatly increased
the professionalism and respect of landscape architects.

The sponsor of the competition, the Landscape Architectural Registration Boards Foundation, is a
501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization that is actively engaged in advancing licensure for landscape
architects.

The competition is open to any student or team of students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or
graduate Landscape Architectural Degree Program. Please visit the "Current News" section of CLARB's
website (www.clarb.org) for a copy of the competition guidelines and to see the award-winning entry in its
entirety.
