Just to give some info regarding this event. When Abraham Lincoln called for a reconstruction of the south he only wanted a 10 percent of the people to give a loyalty oath and then they could be put back in the union. Radical conservatives, Thaddeus Stevens called for a more stricter apprach to let southern states back in the union. Lincoln wanted slavery ended but did not want blacks to be considered equal to whites. It was the conservatives that wanted more rights granted to the freedman.

They were two seperate countries at war. War crimes are war crimes. Something the States have always seemed fond of...even today...very sad...
-
@skordijhl Not sure about all's fair in love but all is NOT FAIR IN WAR-THANK YOU MEIN FUHRER! Or should I call you Comrade Stalin?
-
@RPenta thats like calling the allies terrorists for bombing Germany. there were two countries at war with one another. all is fair in love and war. but when your a small group or even a large group and are attacking a nation then thats terrorism
-
@RPenta Actually, no. Sherman didn't burn anything, and took great care not to assault Southern civilians or pillage their property---even their slaves.
John Bell Hood set fire to Atlanta before evacuating. Don't know personally if it was accidental or intentional.

@skordijhl You have a very selective definition of terrorism-so the Rape of Nanking you would not consider terrorism? I will settle for war crimes and Sherman would have been hanged if we applied the Nuremberg principles to his actions and to those of many of his troops.

@wthjrtx1 I think you're wrong. What did he do that that bastard Quantrill and Blood Bill Anderson didn't do treefold? What he did on the march tom the sea was to endthewar the best way possible: makem the civilians tellm their government I'VE HAD ENOUGH! Sherman liked Southerners and the South.
@teddythebenny Ottoman Empire, Mongol Empire, Mao Tse-Tung's "Great Leap Forward" and "Cultural Revolution", Imperial Japan's "Rape of Nanking" and Unit 731. Don't be picking on the Europeans alone. There's plenty of atrocity to go around
