On Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, HBO's "The Wire" program celebrated its 5th and final season on the air. At the historic "Senator Theatre," in Baltimore, MD, a sidewalk square was dedicated (titled) to the show to mark the occasion. Speaking on camera were some of the actors associated with "The Wire." In order of their appearance, they are: Clarke Peters, Michael Kostroff, Deirdre Lovejoy, Andre Royo, Clark Johnson, Gbenga Akinnagbe and Ed Norris. Afterwards, a private screening of the first episode was held.

In regards to network television (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC), the best --- no, the ONLY --- programme with an ensemble cast that deserves a mention in the same breath as The Wire was arguably Hill Street Blues. But, you have to keep in mind that that was on network TV, not cable like The Wire. So, they were somewhat limited and restricted by comparison. But, the acting and writing were both the best of anything else that was on network TV during its' run.

  • Class acts, all of them.

  • @Zari7000 This white person liked it because there were good people in every single walk of life -- hoppers, dealers, cops, lawyers, and there were corrupt people in every walk of life. And people grew and changed. Bodie was an amazing character, watching him grow from season 1 to 5. And Ellis Carver. And Poot. The ones who couldn't grow/change destroyed themselves -- McNulty, Bell, Barksdale, Stanfield. And there were no happy clappy bullshit endings.

  • how much money did the show make?

  • @grantfaceclaw Im in wire withdrawal at his moment... (Warched finale yesterday...) But ill throw Twin peaks first arc out there.

  • SKYHIGH WEB DESIGNING HOLLA AT ME

  • this show was liked by white people because it showed black people going to jail all the time. Thats why it lasted so long. but in real life this shit an't happen noi more.

  • The Wire is my favorite too.

Love for David Simon, Ed Burns & anything they back creatively. Finished watching their miniseries Generation Kill. Different but excellent. I want to see Treme now, but too broke for cable, can only afford Netflix.

  • my favorite show
