CDFinder http://www.cdfinder.de is the powerful yet easy-to-use Digital Asset Manager for Macintosh and Windows http://www.cdwinder.de

This amazing software catalogs any type of data (photos, movies, songs, documents), on any device (hard disk, CD, DVD, Blu-ray, USB sticks, server volumes, iPods, etc.) and offers powerful Find features to quickly locate your data.

The extensive support of metadata (Adobe XMP, EXIF, IPTC, MP3, and more) also increases the abilities to locate our files anywhere.
- Text Transcription:
The affordable yet powerful media cataloger CDFinder can keep track of your photos, audio files, videos, and any other files and folders, regardless of where they are stored. Catalog CDs, DVDROMs, hard disks - internal and external, and much more with CDFinder, and quickly Find any valuable data.

But you can also use this splendid asset management tool in your entire network, so that all users in the network can share a common CDFinder database!

To set this up, you need to copy over your CDFinder Database Folder from your local Documents folder to a server disk.

Use the „Reveal in Finder command to show you your current database folder.

Then mount the server disk.

Copy over your CDFinder database folder to the server.

Then tell your CDFinder to use that folder on the server as its database folder, in the CDFinder Preferences.

You need a CDFinder Business License for that, of course.

CDFinder will then use that database folder on the server to store any new catalogs.

If you set up all other installed CDFinder licenses in your network the same way, all users now share one common database folder for their CDFinder catalogs.

That way you can quickly keep your entire network organized, and on the same level.

And with the additional CDWinder for Windows, that is even possible on the „Dark Side as well. The setup is similar, just make sure that the database folder can be accessed by both Macs and Windows PCs alike.

CDFinder even includes the option to keep track of the changes to the database folder on the server, so that all new or deleted catalogs are recognized quickly. Set this up in the Database Settings in the Special menu, and enter the speed you need. If your database folder changes very often, set the speed to FAST, otherwise, SLOW will reduce the network load on your server.

And one more tip: You do know that CDFinder can catalog your server disks as well? We have had many clients telling us that the CDFinder search was so much faster than trying Spotlight on the server, if Spotlight was even supported at all... But CDFinder did that on the spot.

  • @upcycle Yes, that is possible. You only need the Business License if your database folder is shared on a network server.

  • can you access the catalogue folder on an external usb harddrive or flash drive, accoss platforms, such as the Mac and MS Windows with a standard license (non business licence)?
