RAG MAMA RAG
The Band
The Band (1970)

Rag Mama Rag,
I can't believe its true.
Rag Mama Rag,
A - what did you do?
I crawled up to the railroad track,
Let the four nine-teen scratch my back.

Shag Mama Shag,
now whats come over you.
Rag Mama Rag,
I'm a-pulling out your gag.

Gonna turn you lose like an old caboose, got a tail I need a drag.

I ask about your turtle, and you ask about the weather,

Well, I can't jump the hurdle and we can't get to-gether.
We could be relaxing in my sleeping bag,

But all you want to do for me mama is a
Rag Mama Rag

Theres no-where to go,
Rag Mama Rag
Come on resin up the bow.

Rag Mama Rag, where do ya roam?
Rag Mama Rag, bring your skinny little body right home.
Its dog eat dog and cat eat mouse, you can

Rag Mama Rag all over my house.

Hail stones beatin on the roof,
The bourbon is a hundred proof.
It's you and me and the telephone
Our destiny is quite well known.
We don't need to sit and brag.

All we gotta do is Rag Mama Rag.

Rag Mama Rag. Where do you roam?
Rag Mama Rag, bring your skinny little body back home.

  • Happy to have a cd of the band.:) From ur number 1 fan in the Philippines.:) GREAT MUSIC!:)

  • In 1970 I heard cripple Creek on the radio . Never hearing of this group before, but liking the way the cover looked plus the name The Band sounded pretty cool .I was in 7th grade , money was tight , what a great investment .It's dog eat dog and cat eat mouse , you can Rag Mama Rag all over my house .After 1 week I went back to Korvettes and bought Big Pink . Got each lp as it was released and then had to duplicate on cd in the 80's .Truly one of my top 5 groups of all-time !

  • ...The bourbon is a' hundred proof!!!

  • we will never see the likes of this kind of group again. they were originals.

  • Not "roisin", but "rosin" up the bow, which is an analogy to sexual friction in this case.

  • @johncduff A truly great song. And I used to ride my bike up Easton Rd to Korvettes back in the day.

  • Just to clarify the lyrics: it is 'roisin the bow' not 'resin the bow'. It is an old Irish song.

  • Their only British top twenty and what a good one it is too. Great to see most of the group still alive and kicking. Always put on the DVD of 'The Last Waltz' Movie every so often. Too many people gone.

  • "hail stones beatin' on the roof, the bourbon is 100 proof..."

yeeeehawww!!!! LOVE that section, this is such a great song!!!!!

how can a person NOT dance to this???!!!

  • I Like it!!

  • one of the great bands that incorporated rock with blues jazz and country into their sound. One of a kind

  • @imallright116
