Crossing a crazy bridge on our way to Dushanbe in Tajikistan along the Afghanistan border on the Pamir Highway.

Joe and Will would have to scout out ahead to determine where we could drive. The bridge washes out every year and is replaced in a not-so-safe condition. There are holes large enough for the entire tire to drop through. A couple times Joe and Will had to push down the metal sheets in order for me to drive across it.

We were driving from England through Tajikistan on the Roof of the World Rally 2009 in a Ford Mondeo Estate station wagon.

  • why do only rich kid loosers get to do this kind of thing when will someone sponcer a real man movie about the most beautiful places on this planet

  • @shadowlechine First of all, each of us paid our own way with money we earned individually working, not from some "rich kid" trust fund. Secondly, we did this to raise a substantial amount of money for a very worthwhile school in need in that region. And thirdly, why don't you start acting like a "real man" and keep your bitter comments to yourself unless you know what you are writing about.

  • This bridge is not sustainable . it was away at least two times.

  • @alexandradorothy Much of the route we traveled was not sustainable. The worst is when there is no bridge at all--which we saw many times.

  • This makes me laugh - I wonder what that bridge is going to be like next year :) Mongol teams don't go this way so they shall never have the joy of facing this bridge :)

  • One of the many "interesting" bridges we crossed. I'm just happy that there was a bridge to cross! As you know too well, usually the bridge is missing all together.
