In 2006 13,491 people died from drunk driving. It is a fact that most teens who drink, drink heavily. Due to the crashes, that drunk drivers cause, there is so much money wasted. It costed a person in an accident, but not the drinking driver, 63% of the total cost of the crashes in 2000. There are many consequences for drunk driving and these are some of the solutions needed to prevent drunk driving. A strong consequence even more affective than just automatic license revocation is, automatic license revocation and a mandatory jail sentence. There are many other consequences for DWI, such as the cost of drivers educations classes and not having the privilege to drive. These consequences are affective to prevent DUI. There is also programs to help alcoholics, such as MADD.
I think the best way to prevent drunk driving is for the parents to always talk to their children, up to adults, about it and make it a comfortable subject. This is so if the teen ever starts drinking the teen will feel like they can tell them more easily than if it were something to avoid in conversation. Which is important because then the parents can help the teen get over drinking before it gets to heavily. Schools do teach student from young to old, but it is important that the parents involve themselves in the learning process. There are many ways to be a roll model and this is an excellent one. Each time you talk to your daughter and/or son about drinking and driving and teach them the consequences while hearing their feedback, you will know how much they are understanding and you can build from there. In the future, rather than having no real understanding, they will remember their lessons and take from that, not the cup.
