Although Canon's 18.1 Megapixel EOS-1D X DSLR is a highly specified professional camera it has been designed, using feedback from professional photographers, to be as easy to use as possible. The fifth of a series of six films about the EOS-1D X examines some of the camera's key functionalities and capabilities to demonstrate how it is an amazing and intuitive creative tool for photographers and filmmakers.
In the film Canon Europe's European Professional Imaging Communications Manager, Mike Owen, reveals: "The EOS-1D X is very much an evolution, rather than a revolution, in camera design. We've listened to photographers; we've taken their feedback on board -- whether it's the size of a button [or] the position of a button. We really wanted to make sure this was a tool that they can work with as part of their everyday [working] lives."
This ability to tailor the camera to an individual's workflow is available via a Custom Controls function so that photographers can customise the functions of 10 buttons and dials to meet their personal requirements. A total of 31 Custom Functions allow users options to control aspects of the camera's exposure, drive, autofocus, displays, operation and 'Others', including restricting the available drive modes, setting the card and image size, a multi-function lock for controls, and an option to select the default function when the erase button is pressed.
For easier menu navigation and setting, all the AF settings and AF Custom Functions of the EOS-1D X have been grouped into one dedicated AF menu tab so photographers can get to their preferred autofocus settings without any delay.
Note to male presenter: Stop shaking your hands trying to add emphasis. It's bloody distracting and completely redundant!
