Brooke Bender, Peace Corps, South Africa 2003-2005. Brooke is a first year
graduate student at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.
She served as an Education and Community Resource Volunteer in a
rural village called Komaneng in the Northern Province of South Africa.
Brooke worked together with community members to develop HIV/AIDS community
education programs to combat the high incidence of HIV/AIDS within her South
African village. Brooke says that what she misses the most about South Africa is the culture - the daily singing, dancing and prayer, as well as her host family and friends. Her goal is to return overseas, hopefully to Africa, to develop infectious disease prevention programs.
