The iconoclastic director who radically reinvented such classics as Oedipus at Colonus and King Lear turns Ibsen's 19th century feminist anthem on its head with his wildly acclaimed, OBIE Award-winning version of A Doll's House. In his surrealistic vision, little men, portrayed by actors less than four and a half feet tall, dominate big women, played by actresses nearly six feet. Set in a playhouse-sized world, the women literally must crouch, crawl and cram themselves into miniature furniture in order to function in the men's world. Eve Beglarian's score, a collage of Edvard Grieg's piano works, accompanies each scene like a silent film in this wicked and dizzying visual commentary on sexual politics.

  • True, I went to go see the play about a week ago, it was amazing!

  • We just talked about Mabou Mines and this production during Theatre History today. This re-working blew my mind, the concept for it. I had to see it, and this is definitely a pretty incredible re-working of it.
