waiting is the key

i'd like to share with you the first homemade video i ever created ...
this was about six/seven years ago...
the thing is,
i got this cheap little digicam and was instantly overcome with a sense of mischief...
from the very start,i never wanted to make polite videos...
they always have to have some sort of trippy emotional or musical or sexual charge to them....
so this is me acting out the part of a male street prostitute , while a friend holds the camera...
when i do these videos,
where i'm the subject in them,
i'm likely to push the camera in anybodies hand and ask them to just to point it at me...
the process is always very ramshackle..
the person holding this camera at the time, had probably never held a digicam ever before,
so the picture is shaking all over the place...
to me this adds a certain charm to whole affair,
though you may think otherwise!...
my hair was dyed bright ginger then,
but i took a really bad allergic reaction to the chemicals and can no longer dye it....
so my hair today in silver grey!
it really is the most unnerving thing for me to see how much i've aged over the course of this time...

the song was recorded in two minutes into a little pocket size recorder...
for me the lo fi quality of the soundtrack compliments the extremely amateur video....
and i like how the video footage keeps repeating..
it makes it look like the life of a male street prostitute is boring...repetitive...
a lot of time to kill...
a lot of waiting around...
and the song suggests/reflects that this is a movie of the guys past...
but he's now found love and a good home.
there's also something very 'midnight cowboy' to me in this clip.....
and there are echos of the picture sleeve for a brilliant old rolling stones album called 'sticky fingers'

i've made slick videos for my records in the past..
but i had no input in those,
so they never really meant anything to me ,
but when i got that little cheap camcorder and was in creative control,
i instantly fell in love with the whole palaver ...
so much so,it's actually inspired me musically...
so this is the first video i ever made.
i hope it makes you laugh or smile or something....

fame is a funny thing,skinny...i 'tried' being famous when i was younger,but so many other people are trying to be famous too...and i loved songwriting much more than i loved the idea of fame ...and these days i like the idea of a switched on audience rather than a big audience of nothingness.....i love it that you've watcxhed so many of my videos..there's a marycigarettes soundcloud page where you can download free tracks,and i'll add more free tracks soon.thanks so much for all your words.
