I remember I was in high school and even I knew about the price of silver! I also remember that one of my classmates worked for a bullion store back then. Its true, everyone knew about it and talked about it. Some of us even bought some silver, referred to as "trash" silver today. Think about it, high school kids talking about silver! Can you imagine that happening today? We're no where near the top on this.

People who had silver tried to sale almost at any offered price. If you had $10,000.00 in what you paid for silver I could buy for $1,000.00. People made mone in that way. Most folks invested their life's savings in silver. When it dumped they would take anything to get rid of it. It's on the same basis as shares of stock in 1929. People were burning their certificates to keep warm not realizing what the future could bring if they held on to them. $500 in GE then is $100,000. now.

I talked to my dealer about the 1980 run. He too was in business at the time in the same spot and he is nearly 80 years old today. He told me that many silver investors came into his shop for a good stretch. But my dealer told me that he knew that there would be a point that he needed to stop hoarding silver and sell it all off respectively and make off happy with such profits. He said many "would be" dealers, investors, and dealers all around got stuck with TOO MUCH silver when it went to $6!

Computers where the thing that saved America from Hyper inflation in 1980. I don't think anything can stop the hyper inflation this time.

The U.S. Government dumped their silver to bankrupt the hunt brothers. Once they ran out of silver they made the banks keep the prices low with manipulated paper markets. We are currently seeing what happens when you manipulate markets,it works but for only so long.....

My god what a ringer you have there in that eagle claw coin. My friend has a 1oz kooka that's in very nice shape but it doesnt ring. Does anyone else have 1oz kook that thuds when you try to ring it?

@BullBullion2010 - Hopefully, you're the exception, and just way, way, ahead of the curve! Keep stacking!!

i hold bars instead of government mint rounds. planning on getting some more shiney stuff real soon. do you think it's worth the premium right now for government mints?

@looopandlooop
Yes, I do. I like junk but I also like generic rounds and govt issue coins. The premiums are justified imo. They come with tangible benefits.

Glad u liked the coin
Its a 1974 Sea Eagle which is 50% silver
The 1973 and 1972 versions are 90%.
And tried as i might, i could not get the same "ring" back here when i played with the coin. =p

Thank you again, it's one of my favourites, now! I love how it's half silver and half copper. I love both of those metals :)
