No one farms ants for profit, but they are still around. A lot of animals are near extinction because of hunting them for use, which means they would be profitable. Other near extinct animals have had their habitat destroyed and such. But that can all be protected via property rights. Private property gets taken care of, public property gets trashed.

Actually, there are places that cultivate ants, and sell them in items such as miniature ant farms. Besides, no one ever said all animals had to be cultivated to not go extinct, just that the ones who are don't...

Right, the chicken population has increased due to demand and domestication, but it brings up a moral dilemma for those of us who ascribe to non-aggression... that is the inhumane treatment of animals. Not that we need a state to regulate this activity. Animal cruelty in farming exists in the midst of a multitude of state regulations. Can you imagine a situation within free markets that will produce a kinder, non-violent world toward our animal friends?
