Ararat means Urartu in the Assyrian dialect of the Aramaic language. The region was part of the Assyrian and Babylonian Empires. Urartians were North Caucassian ethnic group related to modern Nakh peoples (Chechens, Ingush, Avars, Lezgi, and the Dargwa). The Urartians didn't speak an Indo-european language like the Armenians or the Persians or the Greeks.
