EMI BTR-2 reel to reel

These were the leaders in broadcast machines in England, they were used extensively in the BBC and the famous Abbey Studios (Not the portable version). This recorder was transportable, in total it weights over 200Kgs, this machine would have been used by the BBC in their emergency broadcast stations and sometimes bolted into the back of cars for outside broadcasts.

When I worked in the Beeb back in the 70's we still had some BTR2's very much in use. The stereo ones were known as "BTR-2-GT"

Thank you for the info, I have the stereo machines however, the valve stereo was called the BTR-3/2 and the BBC modded BTR-2 was called the RD4/4 (I have one of these too) however I didn't know they called it the BTR-2-GT, what did the GT stand for?

The BTR2-GT wasn't the official number, it's what they were affectionately known as by the technical staff at the time. "GT" as in motor racing.
