I contend that the career of this artist is an emblem that our civilization peaked around the mid-sixties. This kind of work now evokes a snicker of knowing disgust. We find his clarity to be saccharine. We find his emotion to be callow and simplistic. We laugh at the sentimentality of his flights of falsetto. Look at how he is dressed. We now see such a costume as effeminate. If you do not feel these gut reactions to this piece you are lucky to have a part of your soul untouched by decadence.
