My sweet dachshund, Lily, going for her first swim of the summer. I am getting her a puppy life vest for her future dips. May 2009. As I say in all my vids, please try to ignore the silly commentary. I can't help but turn into a squealer when I'm around her or any other animal. LOL.

  • My dog Jasper is also a mini daschund and we just found out this weekend that he can't swim...completely capsizes (rolls over) and sinks! He loves to be in the water if he can reach the bottom, though.

  • @videomama09 @videomama09 Awww, poor Jasper! ;-) He sounds a lot like my Lily! lol :) Not to worry though, with a doggie life vest, he can do all the swimming he wants while staying safely afloat. My hubby & I bought our doxie one & she surprisingly loves it & isn't afraid of getting in the water without complete assistance. We got it at PetSmart for like 30 bucks. It was invaluable on our recent beach trip. :)

  • just let it go it will swim better than you do... trust me...

  • @VIDEOZAL Yeah, she has improved a good bit since that summer after letting go. Unfortunately, I guess b/c her legs are so short, even for a dachshund, it makes it difficult for her to stay above water for very long. After some practice though and lots of motivation to hunt the rogue little froggies (heehee!), she can stay above water for a little while before capsizing. We eventually bought her a doggie life vest, so she now doesn't have to worry about it anymore. :-)

  • @bionicbigjames Nice story with frogs))) I don't get it... When my dog saw the ocean for the 1st time he was like 6-7 mo and he jumped in like he was doing it for years... since then I can't pull him out of water if he see an ocean even in 3 ft waves LOL... I thought all dachshunds are good in swimming...

  • @VIDEOZAL I know, me too! I grew up around doxies & my Lily is the only one I've ever seen who just can't seem to get it right. Unless she's in hot pursiut of a frog, she only lasts a little while before either tipping over & then sinking or just slowly sinking while paddling...poor thing. Wish she always showed as much enthusiasm as she does when frogs are in close proximity. lol. I bet it is a blast swimming with your pups in the ocean. :-)

Get him a life preserver! My Toby was like that too but with his life-preserver, he'll swim out on his own to get his toys!

  • Oh my God! That is the cutest thing I've ever seen! I had a dog exactly the same as Lilly, and it was a female as well. I love this breed! This video is sooo cute <3

  • Lily: Get me the hell outta here!!!
