The Bengali Film Puspadhanu was released In the Year 1959 Uttam Kumar, Tapati Ghosh, Rajlakhi Debi, Jayashree Sen, Arundhuti Debi Bhanu Banerjee, and Ajit Chatterjee. The Bengali Film Is Directed by Sushil Majumdar. Rajen Sarkar Scored the Music in the Film.

SYNOPSIS:

Pushpadhanu is a modern day love story. Considering the time during which it was made the film was a milestone of sorts in it's portrayal of a strong woman character. The film openly argues in favor of women's liberation and has an unmistakable feminist undertone.
Madhobi alias Ishani is a world famous dancer. During the initial stages of her life she fell in love with Arun Dutta Chowdhury, an army man. As a result of their passion Ishani gets pregnant, but Arun goes away ditching her. Ishani gives her child to a missionary Sylvia who brings him up. Some years later Ishani gets to meet Shantanu and love happens again. Shantanu is a qualified flute player, but he prefers to live his life in bohemian sorts of way. He joins Gitali Sangha, an organization run by Ishani. They perform together as their bond gets stronger. Eventually they start to live together when Shantanu is forced to leave his ancestral house. Coincidentally by a twist of fate Shantanu becomes quite close to Victor, Ishani's son who's brought up by Sylvia. In this situation, Ishani goes for a India tour and there she meets Arun after a long time. After much emotional turbulence, she decides to give back Victor to his original father. In this process Ishani loses interest in all his material possessions and decides to leave the city with Shantanu.
