Our veterinary hospital in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania received yet another stray dog yesterday compliments of a Good Samaritan! Someone called East Stroudsburg Veterinary Hospital in the early afternoon to report they had found an intact male pit bull with his face covered in blood!? For some reason the person requested we send an employee to the Wal-Mart parking lot and Alyssa, our veterinary nurse in training was dispatched with a pickup truck and blankets to transport the wounded dog back to our office. This dog arrived at our veterinary practice with open bleeding wounds on his head, neck, face, front legs and inside his mouth. As is typical of many pit bulls used for fighting, he wore the obligatory spiked collar to "protect" his neck region. Since this dog arrived on President's Day we initially called him Van for President Van Buren, but overnight Doc Pawsitive, Clair Thompson, "Leader of the Pack" decided to change his name from Van to Burr in honor of Vice-President Aaron Burr, who dueled with Alexander Hamilton, since Burr was obviously used as a fighting dog. Despite being used as a fighting dog his temperament and disposition seem quite friendly and stable. His wounds have been cleaned and dressed, he was started on antibiotics and pain medication, tested negative for Lyme and heartworm disease and an ad was placed in the Lost and Found Classified of the Pocono Record. We obviously don't expect anyone to be dumb enough to come forward and claim ownership of Burr under the circumstances, but stupidity causes people to do stupid things. For those of you still not picking up on the underlying messagee from this video, here it is! Alert! We certainly believe that dogfighting goes on regularly within our community and not just in big cities and down South. Anytime people still hold convicted felons and dog fight backers like Michael Vick as role models in high esteem and you have a mayor of a major US city like Dallas, texas giving a criminal like Vick the keys to the city, people will continue to emulate and repeat the same criminal behaviors in their own communities, simple fact!
thats animal cruelty right there!

I am glad you guys took him in. He is getting a second chance at life. If he lost a fight the owner/fighter would of killed him for sure.

As beaten up as he is, he's still behaving beautifully. How can anybody be afraid of pits?
