This is some of the footage I have shot with my Canon XH A1 HDV camera. All footage is shot using native gamma, manual control, 24p, and no 35mm adapter (although I'm looking forward to getting my M2). For many of the shots I over exposed just a little to bring out the color. No color corection done in post, except for the shots where I use the limit effect (black, white, and yellow). Edited with Final Cut Pro on a Mac G5 Quad 3.0 Ghz, 2 GB RAM. Sorry for the camera shake, I didn't have a tripod. Song is "Smell of Yellow and Black" by Code Seven.

  • looks a bit washed out... i know you didnt color corrected it but is it natural?

why xl is more expensive? whats their differences except to the hd?

  • Ya, this is before I discovered the wonders of user presets and specifically the Stephen Dempsey "Pana Look" and "VIVID RGB" presents.

  • i was looking at the general specs between the XH A1 and the XH G1 and they seem to be exactly the same..what's the diff?

  • The XHG1 has HD-SDI output through BNC conectors, and timecode out for linking to other cameras and doing multi cam shoots. Optics are exactly the sames.

  • Don't be afraid to zoom in, and go manual. Keep the iris open, gives you more blur.

  • Everyone needs to click the "more info" button, most info about the video is in there. Yes its all at 24F and its HDV.

The shake is just because it was a run and gun shoot, and I had not tripod. I should have used the smooth cam feature on some of the shots, but it degraded the footage if the shake is too bad. It would of looked worse if I put the cam on my shoulder... haha.

  • Your editing and camera setup leaves a lot to be desired i hope you don't sell these cameras

  • why didn't it fill the frame? How did you export the file. I'm thinking of buying this camera but does it not operate in full HD when you edit the file?

  • While shooting in dark situation, over exposed might be a good idea for those small ccd palm size camcorder. Now you are sacrificing the contrast and color satuation of a good prosumer camcorder which can offer.

  • cool :)

    nice video again :)

im searching for a work so i can gather about 3 thousand euros and get this camera next year :/

    aaahhh money :(

  • video would look excellent in HD! I use an H1 my self too.

  • haha
