Maiko (apprentice geisha) dance to represent Spring at Dawn the favorite time for Sei Shonagon:

"In spring it is the dawn that is most beautiful. As the light creeps over the hills their outlines are dyed a faint red and wisps of purplish cloud trail over them."

  • Ah, so beautiful! Do you by any chance have a longer version of this video - the full dance perhaps? I would *love* to see it!!! ^_^

  • Afraid not - this was taken with my digital photo camera's video function. That's why this is so short.

  • @jeffhardyfangirl0512 If I remember rightly, somebody told me that a fully assembled maiko obi weighs about 10kgs.

  • That was beautiful, but it must be hard to move around in that outfit, don't those kimonos and long obi add a few pounds?

  • Sorry the maiko on the right is Hisano not Ichiemi.

  • お前、日本へ帰って、このビデオを再び作りなさい!

    今度は映像の全体を見たいんですよ!: )

  • Left to right: Maiko's Hisacho, Hisamari (she quit), and Ichiemi.

  • what a beautiful show ^_^
