What happens if Windows Mobile dies? People who are blind may have lost access to their smart phones, because Windows Mobile is the ONLY accessible smartphone platform. Palm, BlackBerry, and Apple are not accessible. There's a prototype device for the iPhone that is a tactile overlay. If this can work then we can possibly port VoiceOver from Mac OS on the desktop to Mac OS on the iPhone. The open source community can develop a screen reader for the Palm Pre, and Google Android, so this just leaves RIM. If RIM wants to increase sales of their Blackberry, I say make a screen reader and screen magnifier for it. Link to the article read in the video: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10153265-16.html

  • with all the new phone os being developed and out performing windows mobile it may only have so long before its true gone (yay).

but whatever company is left standing they'll have to really look at maybe making some type of mobile screen reader. perhaps a mobile vr or JAWS. that would be cool. Maybe someone is working on that now as I type?

  • Well Freedom Scientific made the jump from DOS to Windows with JAWS, wonder if they'd jump from Windows to Linux. They'd probably be the best for KDE environments which resemble Windows, in fact KDE and Windows 7 have a very similar task bar.

  • don't listen to dicks like seefutlow, I enjoy listening to your videos because I am in the process of buying a pda phone and trying to find the best bang for my buck (and waiting for one to come out without a required data plan)

  • LOL fken geek, are those glasses bulletprooof.

  • What we mean is that there are no phones that are Linux based that are accessible. There are no screen readers for them or read-aloud modes or anything.

  • Android is Linux based and that runs on phones!?!?!?!?!

  • I personally think Windows Mobile will be around for quite some time to come. I haven't seen any mobile phones based on Linux at all, they may be around, but I've never seen any of them. The reason I use a VoiceNote, is because it's so easy to use as compared to using a device such as the PACmate with JAWS.

  • very interesting!! thank you rml695 ! first class 5 stars !
