This is an amazing song to play on the bass though by no means an easy one! This song has got more adventures than what you would normally expect from a three and a half minute song. There are shifts in tempo and changes in rhythm. Simon Gallup is an astounding bassist and this track is a proof of his unique talents. Similarly, Robert Smith's guitar work is brilliant on this track. Anybody who is interested in music with a sense of purpose and artistic values should own a copy of '17 Seconds' album (on which this song is present).

As an amateur bass player, this is my childish attempt at something that is not just wonderfully rhythmic but also melodic in equal measure. Do feel free to give your genuine feedback depending on what you think.

  • Watch your timing ! As a bass player you need to be rock solid - like Simon Gallup. Maybe you should try playing with a pick, and as near to the bridge as you can, for a much punchier sound.

  • That's right and that's what I am aiming for. Simon Gallup is like a role model for me. I have to really learn playing with a pick.

  • Nice job in this song. Im a cure fan and this is one of the best in the 17 seconds album. I have been playing bass for 5 months now and I think im an intermediate player. How many years have you been playing?

  • Thank-you for your feedback.

It's good that you think you are picking up well on the bass in such a short space of time (intermediate level is good for someone who has just been playing for 5 months!). Did you learn to play any stringed instrument like the guitar before playing the bass?

I started playing bass a year before this video was shot. So far, I have been playing bass for two years and four months.

  • You should consider playing the riff in an open position. It would make it so much easier to play and would sound much smoother.

  • Thank-you for your feedback. It is something worth thinking about.

  • get a pick and lower your bass man... you are playing the cure!!

even though, thanks for sharing, I fully agree on your thought of this album. Thumbs Up to you!!!!!

  • get a pick and lower your bass man... you are playing the cure!!

  • just dogdy man,i wouldnt be putting this up if i was you!!

  • At the risk of sounding pedantic, Simon doesn't play that particular song in an open position. In fact, he tends not to use open strings very much whenever there is another alternative to play his bass lines.

  • But then again Simon Gallup almost makes a point of hardly using it at all... Do what suits you best, that's the best tip.
