Atheism is not Skepticism or Rational

@srimecrime Homeopathy hasn't been given a scientific seal of approval because they have no evidence to back up their claims of efficacy. It's no more effective than placebo. By the way, homeopathy is a billion dollar industry. Boiron, a major manufacturer of homeopathic remedies, would financially have no problem footing the bill to have the proper clinical trials done. But to do so would destroy their ruse.

Weak, self-contradictory argument. And by the way, the only reason homeopathy hasn't been given a scientific seal of approval is because research into proving its authenticity would have to be funded by major pharmaceutical corporations, who would be partially destroyed by such approval.

So - not believing in things without evidence is not scepticism?
Atheism is clearly the default position.
"(atheists are) not entirely immune to superstitious beliefs"
So? Is that supposed to be an argument?

I really liked this video.. please, ramble on!!!
"most atheists that I know didnt come to their position by rationality"
thank you so much for acknowledging that,
glad to know there's is "idiots" on both sides,
and that it isn't true that... theism is the only crutch for people who don't like to think.
-
Lets say a theist acts very rationally or that the majority of theists are more rational than no theists - does that make the theist position rational? No, it could be cultural or coincidence or it may be that believing makes you more rational generally - that still doesnt make the idea of an intervenning god as described by most theists as rational.
I agree with what you said but you seemed to confuse the 2 ideas a little bit
-
What the hell is she talking about.... We athiests are usually ratiional we are not scientific nuts we are just realists
-
This stupid twat is yet more proof of the danger of religion; it turns you into a bloviating, psychotic nut who thinks there's a being in the sky talking to you. You should be on meds and put away, you fucking idiot. And by the way, maybe you don't know how to read but most of us do and we know that Christians and Muslims are responsible and have been responsible for the vast majority of atrocities committed in the world. But why let facts get in the way of belief, right? Idiot.
-
This lady is a goofnut, and talking on camera is not for her.
She says that "atheists aren't skeptical" and "atheism is not a default position."
Sorry, but atheism is a default position... not believing in something until evidence is presented is by definition the default position on anything for a skeptic.
Yes, some atheists are not rational people, and many are not rational when it comes to a lot of things. But none of that has anything to do with the arguments she's trying to make.
-
Just because some atheists do irrational things doesn't mean that atheism is a less rational viewpoint than theism.
-
You know what. Honestly I think she hit the nail on the head. There are so many atheists that I run into that are not skeptics. They may question god, but there are so many other things they don't question.
@the1observant~ You describe atheists as 'fruitcakes', and capable of hurting yourself or somene else? But yet you support a Christian religion whose tenets and bible have NEVER BEEN PROVEN as being even 1% factual, and are LITERALLY responsible for MILLIONS of deaths and UNFATHOMABLE GLOBAL SUFFERING?! Youre not just a fraud. Youre a hoax of a fraud of a mockery of a sham. Stick to bowing in church and staying ignorant. The rest of us, will evolve past the lies and stagnation, and move forward.

"Atheist pick up on..." "Atheists this..." "Atheists that..."
Rather than broadly generalizing and stereotyping, why not name the specific people who are making these assertions and ONLY those people?
"Bill Maher says..." "Sam Harris also believes..." "Richard Dawkins is known to say..."
These are better assertions, because you're clearly addressing specific people and their specific beliefs and how they are not congruent with logic, rationality, skepticism, and reason.
