Here is a collection of video I took this evening and some photos at the end of the fire that took over the canyon. This fire is in the Irvine/Foothill Ranch/Lake Forest area and you can see it stretches across an enormous distance. The smell of smoke stretches out 20-30 miles. I was driving down Portola and noticed the area behind Ralphs was on fire. From there I ended up filming the rest of the canyon. Everywhere you looked was flames or smoldering areas which as the wind blew would become a raging inferno. I would say this is an experience I will forever remember. That and the fact you can't breathe without smelling smoke.

  • do insurance companies cover these houses?

  • I sure hope it will. I'm pretty sure it would if they had fire insurance.

  • i live in laguna beach and this is really not funny......its a horrible thing that a couple fires are arson and i want whoever it is thats been caught to be burned as punishment!!

  • agreed. Think of all the taxpayer money spent on this. All the homes destroyed. It's terrible.

  • 949 ftw ..

  • typical lazy idiot spouting off BS. Try actually making a difference in the country then if it bothers you that much, instead of just sitting there being a heartless creep in the sight of anothers misfortune.

Way to show you're better than all of us.

  • i used to live in garden grove i could see the flames from my roof when this was goin on

  • That could never work I am a hot shot for the USFS, CA burns and has for thousands if not millions of years, it is an area with a forest that is completely dominated by a frequent fire regime. And this type of CO2 is not the problem, methane and other heavier greenhouse gasses are the more major problem.

  • how about this ....do not build houses in the hills of southern cali. its bone dry.

  • i feel really bad for the people who lost their homes.

and i remember getting the ash in my eyes. that sucked. :/

  • its good thought tat we finally were on breaking news on tv =D

  • u missed day? i missed a week! i remember when the fires hit. i could see flames out of my window! it was a living hell!

  • Arnie needs to stop these fires. 'Large forest fires release tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which exacerbates global warming,' Surely there is a way to nip these fires in the bud? Maybe they could find a way to control them more easily, such as building moats, or man made rivers to prevent its spread. Please post your ideas here. Then ask Arnie to read them.

  • I have a buddy who works for orange county fire.

  • Ohhh, damn. I remember that. That was stupid. It was so hard to walk to skool with that crap in the air...but we did miss like, a day of school.
