Shira Erlichman, "Daddy's Parking Lot Sermon"

It's about a lot of things, mostly identity.
One aspect I can pick out is that the boy feels like an elevator stuck between two floors: the gender binary. It's about a father telling a son he must conform to the male aspect of the modern gender binary and embody machismo instead of his poetry and imagination. Also, the father just wants his kid to be more of an "adult" and give up his childish whims of wanting to be fire, the moon, a dalmation.

Oh my god. I have no words to describe how amazing this is
Jon Lajoie favorited early May. Averaging near 50-100 hits a day since. One more good break and this could get big numbers.
I agree that this is an amazing performance and poem. It strikes a nerve certainly with people who had a parent of this sort and even just people who had friends with parents like this.
What Shira Erlichman does here is called poetry, when it is really working as it can.
Pls help it reach a wider audience? -Thompson

@ThompsonLoM I've listened to this so many times, I've realized Shira Erlichman managed a nice literary ruse by titling this "Daddy's Parking Lot Sermon". The voice is in fact the Sister's voice, almost throughout. Proof that art needs deceit.

What's the line after "Show mom you're nothing like your sister" and before "No. You are muscle..."
