With nearly everyone in the developed world in possession of at least one iPod, people are losing patience with media that plays on only one kind of device. Chief among that media is the commercial movie DVD. Chris Breen presents options for converting these DVDs to a format playable on your computer, iPod, and iPhone.

  • is there anyway using vlc and handbrake to convert all of the movie because i keep trying and it only converts the bigger part as you say so i would have 3 to 5 different files containing the same movie anyway to have it as 1 file only?? please help thanks

  • A huge ripping "legality" disclaimer! Why not explain the cheap legal options first? Though not as convenient, I use a video capture cable ($7+) plus Audials.com Tunebite capture software ($25). You can also capture YouTube and Netflix streams for your ipod or phone to play anytime. Capture from screen and audio output is NOT illegal for private use. I used the capture to transfer Hi8 tapes to digital too. Click on my name for my experience with this setup; I am not promoting Audials.com

  • @ArexNightSKULL LOL.

  • Pretty informative stuff, thanks

  • what do u do if there is audio and video

  • and also an ipad?

  • if i convert into the "universal" option will the dvd play on my apple tv and my iphone? and in good quality?

  • what about explaining the problems with 64 bit vlc and handbrake

  • Can u also convert Tv-series- or does that screw up the system cus it has too many video links?

  • What about audio? Does it keep the 5.1 surround encoding?
