  • "Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian blend of martial art, game, and culture created by enslaved Africans in Brazil during the 16th Century." --- Quote taken directly from Wikipedia's main article on Capoeira..

Capoeira is purely Brazilian. It was never born in Africa. It was created here in Brazil by african slaves. Try travelling to Angola and asking if they know Capoeira.

  • Yes, Capoeira was created in Brazil (as far as we know right now), but it's roots lie in african and indian dances and games. Brazil was the melting pot of which Capoeira finally emerged.

  • This video is great, but the music does not do justice to Capoeira. The Capoeira music is so essential to the moves.

  • isso ai pit bull continue treinando agora saiu do abada e esta no capixaba massa.....

  • @cameracapoeira I also highly doubt that the slaves considered themselves "Brazilian" at the time of the invention of this sport/art. No one is arguing that capoeira is highly identified with brazilian culture but for you to dismiss that it was never born in Africa is a bit high handed. The sport could simply have been transported. We dont know for sure. Angolans appear to practice Capoeira. Idk but ur statement is a little irritating considering the racial attitudes then and now in Brazil.

  • @Alessandrobrs There is a video on youtube called Angola: birthplace of capoeira that suggests otherwise. Despite the geological origin of its creation or the beginning of its practice, Capoeira has its origin in African culture but was practiced in Brazil by black slaves. That phrase "purely Brazilian"? so what if the Portuguese took blacks to Portugal and they still invented capoeira? The country harboring the slaves is irrelevant. They would have developed this beautiful art anywhere.
