Tiger Shovelnose Lima (Sorubim lima ) Thrashing Mucus off (Shedding)

My 8-9" shovelnose lima catfish shedding his mucus layer. Does it about once a week. Completely natural. I think you can catch a glimpse of my Synodontis Eupterus and my silver arowana too. Enjoy.

All catfish seem to have the same a slime coating, but I don't think they all shed, but not sure

Mine ate hikari catfish pellets and chopped krill or grocery shrimp. Even ate hikari herbivore pellets too. Just sold it to a freind a few months ago. Very cool fish. Still doing great today.

whats the minimum tank size (gallons) for a lima shovelnose?

I would say a 100+gallon tank minimum....they get up to 18"..mine is about 10" now.

no all shovelnose do this quiet frequently usually once every week or two i have had over 5 of them

The sorubim lima is trashing mucus off because of your bad quality of water and/or because you change the fish from another quality of water to this new too quickly. Combination of fishes in this tanq is very inapropiate; also it size.

i have a lima cat as well. he has his slime coat about once a month. most other flat nose catfish dont usaly shed like the lima
