The Poindexter History Festival was organized to educate participants on Poindexter Village's past, celebrate its present, and build a shared vision for its future through a community history festival. The festival marked the 70th anniversary of FDR's inaguration of Poindexter, one of the country's first public housing communities, which is named after the famous slavery abolitionist Reverend James Poindexter. Taking place at Beatty Recreation Center on Oct. 9th, 2010, the festival consisted of a stage show, visual arts showcase, historic documents and photos, history and arts workshops, and an elder's oral history circle with over 40 storytellers participating.
