Americans elect their president using a representative system called the Electoral College. A state has a set amount of "electors," and all of those electors go to the candidate who gets the largest number of votes in that state. Many states almost always vote for one of the two major parties. However, a handful of states, such as Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, could potentially vote for either candidate. These states are called "swing states."

  • What's really wrong with the EC is the winner-take-all racket by which the Big Two Parties hijacked it. In 48 states (and DC) they bet to win all a state's electors by winning the minimal statewide majority. This was the real cause of the 2000 Fiasco and also is why the Dems never called for reform after that election. Recounts, yes, but not reform.
