This Jacobite piper plays the popular march "Wi' a hundred pipers" . Part of the lyrics describe the Jacobite pipers who "play wi' an unco flare" and tell about "pibrochs sounding loud and clear" during the marches. Most clan chiefs had and still have their personal piper.
Since this particular piper is engaged by the chieftain of the Cameron clan himself he wears a kilt in a tartan common to the district (later to be adopted as the Cameron tartan) and an eagle feather attached to a white cockade to indicate his relation to the chief and his support of the Jacobite cause. The hose (or socks) are a popular model worn by the highland regiments raised some years before. He is well dressed for a piper of the time, and armed with a dirk and a flintlock pistol. Note that the bagpipes have two drones instead of the present day three drones. The pipe banner is that of Locheil without the golden bars.

  • @PIPERJIM08 2. Double droned bagpipes were as common as 3- droned bagpipes in Scotland in the early 18th century. This is not a misterious theory, simply visit some museums and castles such as the Culloden Visitor Centre or Dunvegan on Skye to see such models for yourself.

    3. Since the video is supposed to be historical and not a commercial for Madame Tussaud's: Why the hell ( never heard of ON hell, new one? ) should a Jacobite piper not march over big rocks?

  • @PIPERJIM08 It keeps amazing me how many users roam youtube and leave nasty comments without giving video proof of their ability. In addition this one also shows profound ignorance and apparent inability to read a simple subtext.

    1. With a 100 pipers was originally a song, a not a pipetune. If it had been played by a piper around 1745 it would never have sounded like the modern day version which Jim apparently refers to. It would have been a free rendition of the song, nothing more.
